Memorials, Commemorative Sites, Places of Remembrance
Memorials, Commemorative Sites and Places of Remembrance for the Victims of National Socialism in Munich 1933–1945
Commemoration is a public form of remembrance, and public
remembrance an integral part of political culture. For this we need
memorials and monuments that accompany us in our everyday lives, urging
us to learn from history.
This documentary account by Helga Pfoertner, published in Munich by
Herbert Utz Verlag, provides a comprehensive overview of the memorials,
commemorative sites and places of remembrance for the victims of
National Socialism in Munich. It is also a reference book, published in
three volumes with the information ordered alphabetically.
Biographies of the victims of National Socialism are accorded a special
place in this book. By portraying the political, religious and
ideological motives of members of the resistance, it shows that there
are indeed limits to the extent to which people can be
influenced.
The book describes how to get to the places of remembrance and can
therefore also be used as a thematic guide to the city.
