Resolutions
In October 2001, the City of Munich announced its desire to establish a Documentation Centre for the History of National Socialism at Königsplatz square. Shortly afterwards, in March 2002, the State of Bavaria also decided to involve itself in establishing a comprehensive record of Munich’s history during the Nazi era.
This formed the basis for the Free State of Bavaria and the City of Munich jointly to create an appropriate place of commemoration and education in Munich at some point in the foreseeable future. Munich's municipal Department of Culture was given the turnkey function of implementing the City Council´s resolution.
Relevant follow-up resolutions passed by the City settled further details regarding planning and future implementation and forming the groundwork for further action by the City.
